About The Live Now Festival
Labor Day Weekend(Sat/Sun Sep 5-6, 2009) Norwalk, CT is a diverse city. Rich in culture, affluent in the arts -- Norwalk is a place of both 'hard struggles' and 'great opportunity', for those who strive to seek their own path. With a background in music, the arts, event creation and production, Thomas V. Craig, (better known by his childhood nickname "Tom Grin") has been putting on events and helping to develop artists and friends for over two decades. As a Norwalk youth, he often flirted with trouble and struggled to stay focused in school to manage mediocre grades. Not because he wasn't capable, but because of the struggles well-known in the city of Norwalk. Throughout his youth, it was a deep connection to music and sports that kept him focused; and many years later he is still on a journey to create opportunities, small but positive 'motivating distractions', from the everyday grind of life in southern Connecticut. It is in this theme of living in the moment, that The Live Now Festival was born. While Fairfield County is often referred as an area of wealth, there are many untold stories begging to be told. Many paths are being found, champions are being born, and one way to boost the chance of making a difference in just one life, is by reaching out and doing something positive for the place where one comes from, and knows best. To this end, "Slamfest" was created to boost the city's skate park activities and give the local youth something to look forward to at the end of the summer. Five years later, the original event is bigger than ever - but only serves predominantly one age group (and some daring souls who love fun, action and adventure) and left out a wide range of folk looking for a family-friendly, picnic-in-the-park, dance to the original music, event to call their own. The Live Now Festival is the weekend-long event that spans all age groups and all styles of music and interest from the Heaviest of Metal to the most smooth and mature of Jazz, Blues & Reggae (World Beat). Check out the Live Now. page for information about "Live Now." the movement, and read below for specific information about the two days! Slamfest (Sat Sep 5) | Jamfest (Sun Sep 6) SLAMFEST 5::::: Saturday September 5th The Live Now Fest kicks on Saturday September 5th from 10am - 6pm, with SLAMFEST 5, Connecticut's premier action sports & music event, featuring the best skateboarding, BMX, Bands, FMX, Freestyle Motocross teams, as well as 10 of the best bands on 2 stages. The featured artists are picked from the best regional and national bands playing everything from the most extreme heavy metal, hardcore, punk, rock and indie. After literally hundreds of requests, Slamfest 5 welcomes back the return of the Thrust Moto FMX (Freestyle Motocross) team jumping their bikes over 70 feet in the air while throwing mind-boggling tricks you simply won't see outside of X-Games or Dew Action Sports Tour; and certainly not for free! Enormous thanks to the die-hard efforts of David Brown (Thrust Moto FMX / DB Studios) who produces the FMX (Freestyle Motocross) show with close friend Ric Janesky, (FMX daredevil extraordinaire) of Rampage FMX/Thrust Moto. Now in the event's fifth year, and with the crew always stepping it up a notch, this year will feature it's first ever BMX Demo care of Team East, and the best Skate Demos including all of the best local shops and several teams new to Slamfest, including Worship Skate and the return of Bodega. In addition, the crew can barely contain ourselves over the news that Porter & Chester Institute will be bringing it's competition Monster Truck, "Thrasher" (see pic), and will be firing it's massive engines in an earth-shattering car-crush demo. Yup, you read that right suckas. Get ready, Slamfest 5 is going to be insane! > Slamfest Info including Full Band lineup...
